Uniting Missouri: Hope, Healing & Suicide-Bullying Prevention

Glasgow school district and Howard County Missouri personifies what it means to be a resilient Hope Hero. My definition of resilience differs from Webster’s version.

*Resilience (n)- Sharing your gifts with the world WHILE healing your pain.

Most of you have heard of Glasgow Missouri from the media headlines and mass TV coverage. What you don’t know about are the students whose personalities are as colorful as firecrackers, their devoted staff, and involved parents all committed to building a safe community.

Fayette, New Franklin, and Westran middle and high schools also championed for change and welcomed me to facilitate the Empowered Voices Save Lives bullying & suicide prevention training at their schools. The amount of progress we made in five days was profound.

As a result of the Empowered Voices Save Lives training program:

93.9% of students across all 5 districts reported being more comfortable and confident asking for help AND standing up for a peer who is in crisis.

I cannot wait to be welcomed back to Missouri in the fall to continue the progress we started! If you are blessed enough to visit Glasgow you must stop at The Rolling Pin Bakery for a homemade sticky bun. Tell them Mettie sent you!
